The goal of this article is to provide you with a shortcut to get a quick copy of your placeholders for Word and PDF templates. One of the best reasons to utilize this method is for repeat groups when you want to customize how this data is presented. Instead of having to manually build these yourself, you can quickly get a valid copy and start working on your template design. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you read this article which provides information on the basics of the advanced template methods we provide.

In the example below, you have a Timesheet form which contains an "Entries" repeat group. In the mobile form, users will be recording the hours they worked along with a few other details. Further along in the article, you'll be customizing the way this form submission data is presented in the PDF.

A PDF Destination is already setup for this form. If you need more information on creating this Destination type, please take a look at this article. Otherwise, let's get started!

First, click the pencil icon to the right of the Destination to edit it.

On the following page, click "Show Options".

After, a number of customization options will appear. Navigate to the "Show me placeholders I can use in this file name" button and select it. All of your placeholders that can be used in the file name will appear. The good news is that most, if not all of these placeholders will be valid to use within your Word or PDF template by default.

Please note, if any of the placeholders contain [0]'s, these characters must be removed to ensure the data is placed in your Word or PDF output upon delivery.

Example: {{fields.Group.Inner_Subform[0].Password_Question}} will need to be changed to {{fields.Group.Inner_Subform.Password_Question}}.

Copy these placeholders and paste them directly into your template. You can see how to set this up in the template below.

When you're done making edits to your template, save the document and upload it to your "Edit Destination" page.

Lastly, click "Update Destination".

After, test the form with a submission in our mobile app. See below for the generated PDF output from this example.
